WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) issued a statement commemorating April as Fair Housing month and reaffirming his commitment to ending the housing crisis in Rhode Island and across the country.

“Every Rhode Islander deserves to have a safe, affordable place they can call home,” said Rep. Magaziner. “As we mark Fair Housing Month, I’m fighting to make housing more affordable, increase the supply of housing, and expand homeownership opportunities for Rhode Islanders.”

Rep. Magaziner is a cosponsor of H.R.7325 – Community Housing Act that invests over $500 billion in federal programs that fund the construction of affordable housing. The bill includes investments to preserve the national affordable housing supply, paths to homeownership, and perpetual affordability through shared equity housing and community land trust models, investigating landlord price fixing, and providing relief for rural renters.

Rep. Magaziner is also a cosponsor of H.R. 1785 – Historic Tax Credit Growth and Opportunity (HTC-GO) Act, which increases the Historic Tax Credit (HTC) and lowers the substantial rehabilitation threshold, making more buildings eligible to use the HTC and easier to use by nonprofits for community health centers, local arts centers, affordable housing, homeless services, and others.

Additionally, to increase the supply of affordable housing, Rep. Magaziner is a cosponsor of H.R. 3238 – Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act, which restores the 12.5% Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) cap increase that expired. He also voted to pass the bipartisan bill H.R. 7024 – Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act to improve the LIHTC and help create 200,000 new rental homes nationwide.

Rep. Magaziner also cosponsored H.R. 2974 – Interagency Council on Affordable Housing Act, which will create an Interagency Council that is responsible for developing and updating a National Strategic Plan to Preserve Affordable Housing, work with state and local governments to address their needs, and make recommendations to improve federal housing affordability programs.
