CITY OF PAWTUCKET AWARDS DESIGN CONTRACT FOR RIVERWALK AND PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AT TIDEWATER LANDING
PAWTUCKET – The City of Pawtucket recently awarded a design engineering contract to Beta Group, a Lincoln, Rhode Island, based civil engineering firm to design public amenities adjacent to the Tidewater Landing development.
The $1.4 Million design contract was awarded through a publicly bid selection process and will be funded through a federal United States Environmental Protection Agency Southeast New England (SNEP) program grant of $284,000, a grant from the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank’s Municipal Infrastructure Grant program for $350,000, and a Rhode Island state bond specifically designated for Tidewater Landing public infrastructure improvements in the amount of $766,000.
“As construction of Tidewater Stadium continues, we are thrilled to continue in with other areas of this project,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “While development continues, we have remained committed to prioritizing greenspace and public riverfront access. This riverwalk and pedestrian bridge will allow us to improve walkability in Pawtucket, providing an east-west connection for residents to access Tidewater Landing. “
Public infrastructure included in the contract will include a pedestrian bridge spanning the Seekonk River, a riverwalk on the banks of the Seekonk River, a stormwater park that is envisioned to address both stormwater and recreation needs for the Tidewater Landing development and the City, and a proposed stairway from Pleasant Street to Taft Street to facilitate the movement of pedestrians to the development.
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025. The project is currently in the engineering and design phase.
