WASHINGTON, DC – Nearly one week after President Trump hosted Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the White House, Poland’s military and NATO allies were forced to scramble air defenses in Poland overnight and shut down multiple airports after Russian drones crossed the border into Polish airspace.

Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement:

“Trump’s continued pandering has emboldened Putin who remains intent on destroying a sovereign and democratic nation. This latest affront by Putin is yet another stark reminder that Russia remains a threat not just to Ukraine, but to NATO and the international community.

“Russia’s decision to send attack drones into Poland is an outrageous provocation and a clear test of NATO’s resolve. This brazen violation of a NATO member’s sovereignty cannot go unanswered. Poland and its NATO allies responded with impressive speed and unity of effort to repel the Russian aircraft, affirming with absolute clarity and strength that an attack on one is an attack on all. The United States must continue this strong response by imposing maximum sanctions on Moscow and her international enablers and increasing military aid to Ukraine to ensure Putin pays a steep price for this aggression.”
