Volunteers are needed to help welcome international visitors traveling to RI for tournament matches being played in June and July.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. May 14, 2026 – Ocean State 2026, the statewide tourism initiative tied to the international soccer tournament matches happening at nearby Gillette Stadium during the FIFA World Cup period, has launched a statewide volunteer recruitment effort. Dubbed the Rhode Island Summer of Soccer, visitors from around the globe are expected to descend upon the region between June 11 and July 19.

While soccer matches may be held across the border, Rhode Island will shine as a key hospitality and fan engagement hub, and volunteers will be at the heart of the experience. Rhode Island Summer of Soccer volunteers will help to support soccer-related events, fan festivals, arts, food, cultural celebrations, and tourism promotions across the state. Ocean State 2026 has partnered with United Way of Rhode Island, and the organization is coordinating all volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling.

“With hundreds of thousands of visitors expected throughout the region, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Rhode Island,” said Liz Tanner, Ocean State 2026 Executive Director.

Providence has already been announced as a Fan Zone location beginning June 11, with additional programming and community activations expected throughout the upcoming summer. The volunteer program will recruit individuals, businesses, labor unions, students, civic organizations, and community groups. Whether volunteers are available for a single shift or multiple days, their assistance is welcome.

“This partnership is an opportunity to bring together community, culture, tourism, and volunteerism in a way that not only showcases the best of what Rhode Island has to offer, but that also leaves a lasting, positive impact on our state,” said Cortney Nicolato, president and CEO of United Way of Rhode Island.

Those interested in learning more or registering to volunteer may do so online or by contacting Jenna Ramos at jenna.ramos@unitedwayri.org. Additionally, in-person volunteer information and training sessions will be held at Dave & Buster’s in Providence on the following days and times:

  • Friday, May 29, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 2, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

“Our state thrives when we work together, and the Rhode Island Summer of Soccer is a perfect example of that collective spirit,” said General Treasurer James Diossa, Chair of Ocean State 2026. “I see this as a unique opportunity to strengthen community bonds and drive meaningful engagement. We are ready to welcome the world with open arms and show them what a truly special place Rhode Island is.”
