VIC MELLOR VISITS SIMMONS VILLAGE
Johnston, RI: Today, Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Vic Mellor, candidate for RI’s Congressional District 2, visited Simmons Village in Johnston. He met an enthusiastic group of seniors who welcomed him warmly.
During the question-and-answer period, the question of Social Security sparked their interest. They asked about the safety of the program. Vic was quick to reassure them that, contrary to the false charges of Democrat politicians, Republicans and he, in particular, want to do all they can to defend the solvency of Social Security and increase the benefit when possible.
He pointed out that last year when Congress was voting on the OBBB, it was Republicans who included a provision in the bill that removes taxes from a portion of their Social Security income. His opponent, Seth Magaziner, voted “NO.” They will get no tax relief from Magaziner; he wants their money. Additionally, Democrat-dominated Rhode Island is one of only 8 states that chooses to decouple from federal tax policy and continues to tax Social Security income.
He also pointed out the fraud that has been discovered in the program. Biden’s administration placed over 2 million illegal immigrants on Social Security with full benefits. They have not contributed to the program, like the people in the room who worked and contributed their whole lives. Yet they were getting a monthly check until the Trump administration removed them.
It was an afternoon of great questions and fun. They invited him to return in the future.
