Governor Dan McKee to Join Teamsters Local 251 for Announcement
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — On Thursday, July 16, Governor Dan McKee will join Teamsters Local 251 leadership and members at the union’s East Providence hall for an announcement.
Governor McKee has been a consistent partner to Local 251 and its members. This month, he signed the Warehouse Worker Protection Act into law alongside Local 251 leadership, making Rhode Island the seventh state in the nation to require employers to give warehouse workers clear, written descriptions of the tasks and quotas expected of them. Last fall, the Governor stood with Local 251 to sign legislation requiring outward-facing cameras on Rhode Island school buses to protect children, drivers, and monitors from dangerous motorists. He also signed legislation protecting workers’ free speech by barring employers from forcing them to attend captive audience meetings, which are frequently used to deter workers from organizing.
Since taking office, Governor McKee has delivered for working families – raising the state’s minimum wage, creating more than 37,000 private sector jobs, saving two hospitals on the verge of closing, and successfully taking Donald Trump to court to defend the Revolution Wind project and the good-paying union jobs that come with it.
