The announcement underscores that Knight is the consensus choice for gun safety advocates in the race for Attorney General, thanks to his substantial record and deep commitment to fighting for commonsense gun safety and keeping Rhode Islanders safe.

Barrington, RI – Today, Jason Knight announced that he received the endorsement of the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund in his campaign for Attorney General. Together with the prior endorsement of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, this new endorsement positions Knight as the unquestionable choice for gun safety voters in Rhode Island’s Democratic primary election for Attorney General.

“Jason Knight has a long track record of fighting like hell for common sense gun laws, which makes him an ideal candidate for state attorney general, who must hold the line against Trump administration attempts to weaken federal gun laws,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “As the driving force behind Rhode Island’s ban on assault weapons and straw purchasing, Everytown is proud to endorse Jason Knight for attorney general.”

Jason Knight said, “I am honored to receive Everytown’s support. They have been a great partner in the work to improve our gun safety laws these past ten years, and I am committed to continuing this important work as our next Attorney General.”

“More than a decade ago, Rhode Island volunteers started filling hearing rooms at the statehouse with nothing but their neighbors’ phone numbers and a refusal to quit, and every gun safety law on the books in this state has their fingerprints on it,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “Jason Knight has been a partner in that lifesaving work — on gun trafficking, on secure storage, on high-capacity magazines — and now our volunteers will have his back in this campaign.”

Representative Jason Knight has been a leader on gun safety in the Rhode Island General Assembly, sponsoring and cosponsoring a long list of measures to protect Rhode Islanders from gun violence. He sponsored the 2025 law prohibiting the sale of assault weapons — the culmination of a 12-year campaign by gun safety advocates — and the 2021 law banning straw purchases. He also cosponsored Rhode Island’s prohibition on high-capacity magazines, its secure storage requirement, its ban on bump stocks and other devices that make semi-automatic weapons fire like fully automatic ones, and a law ensuring gun purchase applications are reviewed by police in the buyer’s own community. As attorney general, he would be responsible for defending those laws in court and for holding the gun industry accountable to Rhode Islanders.

Knight’s endorsements by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, along with the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction, make him the unanimous choice among gun safety organizations.

Prior statements from endorsing gun safety leaders:

RICAGV Board Chair Ariana L. Wohl said, “Jason Knight has helped craft and pass lifesaving firearm safety laws over the last 10 years as a state representative. We can count on him to enforce and defend them as the next Attorney General.”

RICAGV Executive Director Haley Gervino said, “The Attorney General plays a critical role in preventing violence and ensuring justice. With experience across the criminal justice system, Jason Knight understands the real impact of gun violence and is committed to making Rhode Island safer.”

Moms Demand Action Executive Director Angela Ferrell-Zabala said “Jason Knight is a proven Gun Sense Champion who has consistently gone above and beyond to protect Rhode Islanders from gun violence. From tackling ghost guns to fighting for an assault weapons ban, his legislative record speaks for itself. Moms Demand Action is proud to award him the Gun Sense Candidate distinction, and we look forward to seeing him continue his vital work to keep communities safe as Attorney General.”

State Representative Jennifer Boylan (District 66) said “Rhode Island’s Assault Weapons Ban was stuck in Committee for well over a decade, but we now have a ban on the books because Jason got it over the finish line last year. That’s the kind of focus and determination we need in our next Attorney General – ready on day one to take on the Trump administration and fight for Rhode Islanders.”
