 At tonight’s Providence City Council meeting, Councilors will honor three individuals for their service to our country. Retired Providence Fire Chief George Farrell will be recognized for his work as the chairman of the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub which is dedicated to honoring veterans by offering World War II and Korean War Veterans a no-cost trip to visit the memorials in Washington, DC.

The Council will also be honoring World War II veteran Mr. Domenic Giarrusso. Now 98 years old, Mr. Giarrusso served as a Sergeant in the 312 Depot Repair Squadron, 15th Air Force from May 1942 through December 1945.

Additionally, Mr. Joseph Joel will be recognized for his service as an Army Corporal during World War II. Mr. Joel was awarded the Silver Star for his bravery in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.

Councilwoman Jo-Ann Ryan proposed a resolution recognizing Chief Farrell, Mr. Joel and Mr. Giarrusso in acknowledgement of Veteran’s Day.

The event will take place at City Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, Providence City Hall at 6 pm.
