Dem Govs Get it Done: Gov. Dan McKee Invests $250 Million in Affordable Housing — The Largest Housing Investment in State History
Gov. Dan McKee is leading the way for Rhode Island to make its biggest investment in affordable housing in state history. Gov. McKee signed legislation that will invest $250 million toward affordable housing for low-income Rhode Islanders.
The investment will create new housing across all income levels, stabilize households at risk of displacement or homelessness and improve the quality and safety of existing housing. The funding will also increase supportive and accessible housing, including social services and expanded options for seniors, people with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness.
The historic housing investment is just the latest action by Gov. McKee to directly help Rhode Island families. Earlier this month, Gov. McKee announced working Rhode Islanders with kids will receive a state tax rebate of $250 per child up to three children. The tax rebate will benefit an estimated 115,000 households.
“Gov. McKee is taking historic action to address Rhode Island’s biggest challenges and give families much-needed relief,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “This unprecedented investment in housing means more families will be able to afford quality housing or stay in their homes. It’s also another prime example of how Gov. McKee’s leadership is making Rhode Island a better place to raise a family or start a business.”
