East Providence kicked off Arbor Day celebrations with tree planting
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence hosted an Arbor Day ceremony on Wednesday, April 24 th , 2024 starting with a tree planting and education session at 9:30 at Riverside Middle School, led by Consulting Arborist, Doug Still. and the speaking program and ceremonial planting with Mayor DaSilva and Senator Reed at 10:30 a.m.
The City of East Providence has been awarded one of 385 nationwide grants from the Forest Service to increase equitable access to trees and nature, and the benefits they provide for cooling city streets, improving air quality and promoting food security, public health and safety.
The $750K grant was a part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service ‘Justice40 Initiative’ made possible by President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act – the largest climate investment in history.
