First TV Ad: Matos Pledges To Fight For American Dream & Democracy
Matos’ will spend more than $100,000 on the ad over the next two weeks alone
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lt. Governor Sabina Matos will launch the first television ad of her Congressional campaign tomorrow. In the ad, titled “Worked Hard,” Sabina Matos shares her story of working hard to secure the American Dream – and affirms her commitment to standing up for the rights, freedom, and democracy that make it possible to achieve.
Matos immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic at the age of 20, and packed boxes in a jewelry factory by day while she learned English by night. She went to college – starting at the Community College of Rhode Island and then graduating from Rhode Island College – and became a citizen. She became involved in her community, and seeking to create a better neighborhood for her children, stepped up to serve and ran for Providence City Council. She went on to serve the whole city as President of the City Council before stepping up again for the state and leading as Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island.
“I’m running for Congress because there’s so much at stake for Rhode Islanders in Washington. From reproductive freedom to gun safety, from workers’ rights to our democracy — the American Dream is on the line. These are the same issues that I have led and worked on for more than a decade in public service. I’m ready to put that experience to work and hit the ground running on day one,” said Lt. Governor Sabina Matos, candidate for Congress. “I deeply admire all the work Congressman Cicilline has done for our state. He made Rhode Islanders particularly proud in his strong stand against MAGA Republicans who are a direct threat to the rights and freedoms we hold dear. In the wake of January 6th, he stepped up to hold accountable those responsible for the assault on our democracy. I will continue to be a strong voice for democracy when I’m in Congress.”
Sabina Matos continues to have strong momentum in the special election for Rhode Island’s First District. Over the last week and a half, Matos has earned key support from organized labor – the Laborers, the Building and Construction Trades Council, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 51, and Iron Workers Local 37.
Last month, Matos’ campaign released a memo detailing the findings of a new poll that shows Lt. Governor Matos with a commanding, double-digit lead in the special primary election. Matos leads the crowded field with 22% of the vote, besting nearest competitor Aaron Regunburg who polls second with 9% support. Last week, former RI-01 candidate Nick Autiello’s campaign also released the findings of a poll that shows Matos leading Regunberg 20-12 on the initial ballot and 22-13 on the final ballot, after hearing messages from the candidates.
Sabina Matos continues to earn strong support from key groups, including EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC, Latino Victory Fund, PODER PAC, Vote Mama PAC, and Her Bold Move – as well as dozens of local leaders, including Myrth York and former Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts
