Gov. McKee, Arts & Cultural Leaders Kick Off “Yes on 5” Campaign in Support of Proposed $10M Cultural Economy Bond
Today, Wednesday September 25, the Rhode Island Coalition for Arts & Preservation was joined by Governor Dan McKee and several additional elected leaders to urge Rhode Islanders to vote YES on Question 5 this Election season. This event took place at Trinity Rep’s Chace Theater which included a walking tour highlighting current renovation projects at the theater.
Passage of Question 5, the Cultural Economy Initiatives Bond Measure, will authorize the State to issue bonds of $10 million to support construction and renovation projects at arts and cultural organizations operating across Rhode Island.
Trinity Repertory Company, Tomaquag Museum and Newport Contemporary Ballet are named organizations in the bond referendum; each would receive $2 million to support capital projects.
Additionally, the bond referendum calls for $4 million to continue the Cultural Arts & Economy Grant Program, which is administered by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. This program has supported more than 60 arts and cultural organizations through 1:1 matching grants since 2014.
