Governor Dan McKee was joined by North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi, Italo-American Club of Rhode Island President George Lazzareschi Jr. and Italo-American Club of Rhode Island Past President Anthony Napolitano to greet an Italian Air Force Frecce Tricolori led by Lt. Colonel Massimiliano Salvatore. Members of the team met with the Governor and Rhode Island leaders on the tarmac after returning from a green, white and red flyover of Newport to celebrate Italian culture and history in Rhode Island. This is one of the final stops on the team’s North American tour.

The Frecce Tricolori is an aerobatic demonstration team that performed a flyover of Newport on Monday. During that performance, the team flew in a 9-jet formation with red, white, and green smoke trials, over the city’s iconic landmarks of Fort Adams, the Naval War College, the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge and the State House.
The flyover is to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Giovanni da Verrazzano’s landing in 1524
