Turning Point USA co-founder and conservative activist Charlie Kirk died on Wednesday while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, and a shooter remains at large.

The suspect is not in custody, according to a statement UVU spokesperson, Scott Trotter, despite the school initially confirming a suspect was in custody.

Bystanders reported spotting Kirk getting shot near his neck during a Q&A session with students.

Video posted to social media from the incident showed Kirk in the middle of his “Prove Me Wrong” segment, where he asks students to stump him. Kirk was about to raise the microphone to his mouth when a gunshot roared out. Kirk flung his head back and flinched in his chair.

President Donald Trump confirms by posting

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” he wrote. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

President Trump also asked to honor Charles Kirk by flying all American flags half staff
