Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) today issued the following statement after a federal court ruling blocked the Trump Administration from dismantling the Department of Education.

The ruling, by U. S. District Court Judge Myong Joun of the District of Massachusetts, cites an amicus brief filed by Magaziner and other Members of the U.S. House of Representatives arguing against the administration transferring the functions of the Department of Education to other agencies and requiring the administration to reinstate employees of the Department fired since Trump’s inauguration.

“Today’s federal court ruling is a major victory for students, parents, and teachers. The ruling blocks the Trump Administration’s unlawful attempt to dismantle the Department of Education, a move that harms local schools in Rhode Island and across the country.

I was proud to join an amicus brief in this case, pushing back against this dangerous overreach in executive power. The Department of Education plays a critical role in supporting Rhode Island schools, and I will continue fighting to protect it.”
