WARWICK, RI – Rep. Seth Magaziner (RI-02), a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, issued the following statement after reports that previously rehired National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employees in Rhode Island and Massachusetts will again be terminated:

“NOAA is indispensable for Rhode Island fishermen and our state’s coastal economy – tracking fish stocks, managing ecosystems, and providing critical weather and ocean data.

The chaotic firing, rehiring, and now re-firing of NOAA employees by Donald Trump and Elon Musk directly hurts working people across New England, and is cruel to the people who work these critical jobs.

Stability and accountability must be restored to ensure that NOAA can continue to fulfill its mission.”

Recently, Magaziner hosted a forum with fellow Democrats from the House Natural Resources Committee on how NOAA cuts would impact Rhode Island’s coastal economy. The panel included Rhode Island commercial fisher, Sarah Schumann.
