Providence, RI – Mayor Brett P. Smiley and Chief of Police Colonel Oscar L. Perez, Jr. announced this morning that applications for the hiring process for the 73rd Providence Police Department Training Academy are now being accepted. All those interested in a career in public service are encouraged to apply at www.providencepolice.com
“Ensuring that every person who lives, works and visits Providence feels safe remains my number one priority,” said Mayor Brett Smiley. “Through these academies we are recruiting new officers to continue to build a dedicated, effective and culturally competent department that better reflects the communities in every neighborhood we serve. The members of the Providence Police Department are working on the front lines protecting our community, increasing access to critical services and elevating public safety. If you or someone you know is passionate about making a difference and protecting those in need, I highly encourage you to apply.”
The submission of applications will be open until the end of November. Follow the Providence Police and City social media platforms for information related to the Providence Police Open House scheduled for October 5, 2024. This informational event will provide individuals who have already applied, or those who are considering applying with an opportunity to learn more about the department, its various units and divisions and other opportunities that the Providence Police Department has to offer. Current PPD officers and supervisors will be available to answer questions about the application process, including the physical fitness assessment and other phases of the academy process, and to also provide insight into embarking on a rewarding career in law enforcement.
“The Providence Police Department is committed to building a diverse and dedicated force that truly represents the community we serve. This recruitment drive is an opportunity for individuals with a strong sense of duty, integrity, and a desire to make a difference to join our ranks,” said Colonel Oscar L. Perez, Jr. “We’re looking for people who want to be part of something bigger than themselves, who value teamwork, and who are ready to take on the responsibility of keeping our city safe. If you’re up for the challenge, we want you to apply and help us continue making a positive impact throughout the City of Providence.”
“The men and women of the Providence Police Department are vital community leaders that serve and protect our city,” said Providence City Council President Pro Tempore Juan Pichardo (Ward 9). “Today, the call went out to the people of Providence to take an active role in making our neighborhoods ever safer, ever better, and more vigilant by joining their ranks. With community-centered recruitment reaching every neighborhood in the city, we can continue to build a strong and diverse police force that will truly help keep our city safe.”
