Providence Murder Suspect Found In a Closet
On Saturday, officers responding to John Donigian Memorial Park found 19-year-old Juan Carlos Morales suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, a group of men were at the park when at some point, Morales walked away with Giron and then the shooting occurred.
Police believe a personal feud led to the shooting.
Col. Oscar Perez said police quickly identified 19-year-old Kevin Giron as the suspect and an arrest warrant was issued on Monday.
Forty-four hours later, Perez said “critical details” provided by detectives led officers to confirm Giron was in an apartment on Union Avenue.
Police arrested Kevin Giron on Wednesday at a home on Union Avenue, where he was trying to hide in a stairwell closet under numerous articles trying to conceal himself. It was a police officer that spotted his knee. He was apprehended without incident following a manhunt of a few days.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley praised the department and extended his condolences to the victim’s family. “I want to extend my gratitude to the men and women of the Providence Police Department for their incredible work and professionalism in this apprehension and over the last several days,” said Smiley.
“It’s truly a pleasure to watch all the members of the Providence Police team put in a great effort to bring this subject to arrest and get him off the streets of Providence,” said Perez.
