WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after President Joe Biden nominated Deputy Labor Secretary Julie A. Su to be the next Secretary of Labor, replacing current Secretary Marty Walsh, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) issued the following statement:

“Julie Su is exceptionally qualified and will make an outstanding Secretary of Labor.  She is a true champion of workers’ rights who has dedicated her career to expanding fair labor practices and workplace protections for all.

“I wish Marty Walsh well in his next chapter and I look forward to Julie Su’s confirmation as the next Secretary of Labor.

“Deputy Secretary Su understands the needs of working men and women and has a proven record of ensuing workers are respected, protected, and fairly compensated.  I look forward to working with her to keep America’s workforce strong and build a brighter future for all Americans.”

Julie Su previously headed California’s Department of Labor.  In July of 2021, Senator Reed voted to confirm Julie Su, a fellow Harvard Law School graduate, to her current position as Deputy Secretary of Labor.
