The Rhode Island State Police today launched their recruitment drive and are accepting applications for the 2025 Rhode Island State Police Training Academy Class through August 31, 2024.

 

“We’re excited to announce that we are recruiting our next class of Troopers, and we invite qualified candidates to apply,” said Colonel Darnell S. Weaver, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety. “A career with the Rhode Island State Police is meaningful public service and we are seeking exceptional candidates with diverse experiences and talents to join our job.”

 

Between now and the application deadline (August 31, 2024) there will be several opportunities for interested candidates to learn more about a career with the Rhode Island State Police.

 

Physical Fitness Training Session: Potential candidates learn about the requirements for passing the agility test and will have the opportunity to measure their current level of fitness. The Academy Staff members will demonstrate proper execution of the four phases of the Physical Fitness Assessment: sit-ups, push-ups, 300-meter run, and a 1.5-mile run.

To be considered for the 2025 State Police Training Academy, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • must be between the ages of 18 and 35
  • must be a high school graduate or hold a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • must be a citizen of the United States.
  • must possess a valid operator’s license prior to starting the Academy or be willing and eligible to obtain one.
  • must meet two vision acuity requirements. Both requirements must be met to qualify.
  • Visual acuity of 20/40 (binocular vision) or better without corrective lenses.
  • Visual acuity of 20/20 or better with corrective lenses.
  • must not possess a criminal conviction for a felony offense. During the background investigation, a candidate is evaluated relative to an established set of criteria. Candidates are asked many personal questions, including but not limited to the recency and frequency of traffic citations, at-fault automobile collisions, illegal drug usage, arrests, and convictions.
