RI Painters Union Endorses Brett Smiley for Mayor of Providence
Providence, RI- Today, the Rhode Island Painters Union (RI IUPAT District Council 11), who represent local industrial, residential and commercial painters, drywall finishers, glaziers, and glass workers announced their endorsement of Brett Smiley for Mayor of Providence.
“Brett will be ready to lead Providence on day one,” said Scott Duhamel, International Union Representative. “He has the skills we all need in our next mayor. He is the only candidate with experience managing large budgets, thousands of staff and the expertise to tackle the incredible challenges the City of Providence will face under the next administration. He is hardworking, honest and above all prepared for the job and we know that he will be a mayor for all trades. We are proud to support Brett and look forward to a long partnership that will support our members and their families for generations to come.”
“Brett is a proven leader who understands the issues that the members of the finishing trades face. He has stood up for working families of the IUPAT in his support for prevailing wages for construction workers when developers receive tax subsidies. We know Brett will fight to end wage theft, and support intelligent economic development that works for working families as Mayor of Providence.” Said Justin Kelley, RI IUPAT Political Director.
“I am so proud to have the support of the RI IUPAT and their members,” said Smiley. “Our local trade unions are helping rebuild our city, train the workforce of the future and consistently set incredible safety and quality standards that should be reflected across all sectors. I am grateful for Justin and Scott, and the entire membership for their endorsement and look forward to working with them towards a victory in September.”
