Ribbon Cutting for the New Providence HQ of Higher Ground International

PROVIDENCE, RI – After U.S. Senator Jack Reed worked with U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to secure a $350,000 federal earmark to support the acquisition of a new 10,000 square foot facility in the heart of the West End of Providence, which will serve as a new headquarters for Higher Ground International (HGI), both were joined by Governor McKee and other state, local, and community leaders for a special ribbon cutting ceremony at HGI’s new headquarters, the RUKIYA CENTER.
On Monday, July 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Henrietta White-Holder, Founder and CEO of Higher Ground International, was joined by U.S. Senator Reed, Congressman Amo, Governor McKee, RI General Treasurer Diossa, Providence Mayor Smiley and others to tour the new center, which marks a significant milestone in the organization’s growth, mission, and continued commitment to serving marginalized communities, including Liberians, West Africans, immigrants, refugees, and others with culturally rooted services and support.
Founded with the vision of a more just and equitable world, Higher Ground International empowers individuals and families by providing access to the tools and opportunities they need to lead vibrant and fulfilling lives. The RUKIYA CENTER represents a new era for HGI as it continues it’s growth as a hub for community empowerment, cultural celebration, and impactful services.
“Henrietta White-Holder is a force of nature and a force multiplier. She launched Higher Ground International in 2008, with only $1,000. It has since grown, blossomed, and continues to welcome a wider circle of people in need,” said U.S. Senator Jack Reed, a member of the Appropriations Committee, who, along with Senator Whitehouse, secured $350,000 for the RUKIYA CENTER. “Higher Ground continues to reach new heights, help more people achieve their goals, and strengthen our community. This organization fosters community by providing culturally appropriate necessities like food and clothing, educational services like ESL, financial literacy courses, and more. Ultimately, Higher Ground helps people build community connections and a better life.”
