RITBA Joins “Be Safe Together” Campaign
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority today joined the International Tunnel, Turnpike, and Bridge Association (IBTTA)’s “Be Safe Together” campaign in honor of their first Global Road Safety Week. Global Road Safety Week is recognized from June 24th through the 28th, and will highlight the small choices drivers make that can significantly enhance road safety for everyone.
“The safety of the people who travel on our bridges and work to maintain them is our highest priority.” said Lori Caron Silveira, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. “We hope that encouraging drivers to think about safety will help prevent crashes and save lives.”
According to NHTSA, there were 40,990 road deaths in 2023, compared to 32,999 fatalities in 2010, reflecting a 24% increase over the span of 13 years. With road deaths on the rise in the United States, this campaign serves as a crucial reminder that every individual on the road—whether drivers, motorcyclists, passengers, or road workers—belongs to a community deserving of empathy and respect. Be Safe Together underscores how small decisions drivers make can contribute to a safer community on the road, including actions like checking tires, cleaning windshields, using turn signals, yielding, and more.
This education and awareness initiative will include global messaging, digital promotion, and public and driver engagement. More information can be found on IBTTA’s website: https://www.ibtta.org/
