Statement from Rep. Seth Magaziner, Member of House Committee on Homeland Security

“Over the past year, under Kristi Noem’s tenure, the Department of Homeland Security has plunged into disfunction. ICE agents have terrorized American cities and killed two American citizens in broad daylight without accountability. Rather than focus on people with criminal records, Noem has deported veterans, children with cancer, pregnant women, and countless others who posed no threat to our country whatsoever. She gutted core cybersecurity and counterterrorism functions, mismanaged FEMA, and awarded no-bid taxpayer funded contracts to shell companies run by her friends. Her firing is long overdue.”

As a Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Magaziner confronted Noem about her cruelty and mismanagement of ICE, forcing her to face US military veterans whose lives she had ruined in a high-profile hearing in December, and questioning her about deporting a US citizen child with cancer in a hearing last spring. He had called for an impeachment inquiry against Noem and voted against funding her agency without the inclusion of proper guardrails to keep people safe.
