Winter Storm Alert for Sunday & Monday
Forecasts are calling for a significant snowstorm to impact Rhode Island from Sunday night into Monday. Heavy, wet snow combined with strong wind gusts could damage trees and bring down power lines, leading to potential outages.
Our crews are mobilizing in advance and will be pre-staged across the state to respond quickly and safely as possible. Storm preparation takes all of us—now is the time to take steps to ensure your home and family are ready.

Cold weather and winter storm safety tips
While we prepare for bitter cold weather and a powerful winter storm, we ask that you also take preparations to stay safe and minimize the impact of a potential outage for you and your family.
- Make sure you keep your phones and other devices charged
- Just in case you lose power, it’s good to have an emergency kit on hand with food, water, medication, and any pet supplies you may need
- People who depend on electric-powered life support equipment, such as a respirator, should let RIE know. To register as a life support customer, call the company’s Contact Center at 1-855-743-1101
- Remember that candles can start fires. If you lose power, use flashlights instead
- Clear snow and ice from the gas meter and appliance vents with a broom rather than a shovel to avoid damaging equipment
- If you encounter a downed wire at any time, assume it’s energized and stay away
- Never operate the generator in an enclosed area, like a garage, where deadly carbon monoxide fumes could accumulate
