 19 Year Old Woman Died in Pawtucket After Being Shot

On May 16, 2021 at approximately 11:30 pm, Pawtucket Police responded to Japonica Street to receive a report of shooting. Upon arrival, they found a 19-year-old bullet victim who was taken to an area hospital.

On May 16, 2021 at approximately 11:30pm, Pawtucket Police responded to Japonica Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival they came upon a female gunshot victim, age 19, who was brought to an area hospital in critical condition.

Later today, the victim has succumbed to her injuries and the Pawtucket Police Department is investigating this incident as a homicide.

Kassandra Florez, the community liaison for Mayor Donald Grebien’s office, said the city is working with the Nonviolence Institute to help obtain resources for the victim’s family.

Statement from Community Coordinator Kassandra Florez on May 17:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy of last night’s shooting of a young girl. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family. These incidents cannot continue to happen in our community, and we need to end this violence. We continue to work with the Nonviolence Institute to help obtain resources for the victim’s family and request that if anyone has information about this incident, they contact Detective Justin Gould of the Pawtucket Police Department at jgould@pawtucketpolice.com or 401-727-7100 ext. 723 or Detective Andrew Torres at atorres@pawtucketpolice.com or 401-727-9100 ext. 769 and help us address these heartbreaking incidents. ”

There is no news from the police on any suspects or what may have caused the violence.

It’s unclear if Sunday’s shooting is in any way related to the deadly shooting of a Pawtucket man Saturday on Randall Street.

This is a great loss to our community, and we cannot allow incidents like this to become normal. an unfortunate isolated incident, and our police department is working on this ongoing investigation.
