McKee Administration Funds Math Programs That Add up to Summer Learning

More than $2 million in #MathMattersRI summer programming available for grades K-9
PROVIDENCE, RI — As part of the State’s #MathMattersRI campaign to boost academic performance, the McKee Administration is funding more than 30 mathematics-focused summer programs for rising kindergartners to ninth graders in communities throughout the state.
25 municipalities were awarded more than $2 million in grants to finance the summer programs as part of Governor Dan McKee’s Learn365RI initiative to expand learning beyond traditional classroom time. Launched in 2023, Learn365RI seeks to improve student outcomes, including Rhode Island Comprehensive Assessment System (RICAS) scores.
“I want to help Rhode Island students build strong futures—and math skills are a key part of that success,” said Governor Dan McKee. “We need to help students gain the tools they need now for high-paying jobs in the future.”
“Rhode Island has made significant investments to ensure high-quality learning opportunities are available – in and out of school – and we’ve built solid momentum,” said Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “Our state math scores have rebounded above pre-pandemic levels, and a national review by education experts indicated we are leading New England in academic recovery. That said, we are not yet where we need to be and need to continue to invest in and support our students. We look forward to continuing to partner with the Governor’s Office to improve student outcomes statewide.”
While enrollment in some #MathMattersRI summer programs is by referral only, others are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Most programs are offered free of charge.
