PROVIDENCE, RI — On Thursday, Governor Dan McKee will be joined by bill sponsors, supporters and members of UFCW Local 328 to sign legislation that establishes limits on self-checkout lanes at grocery stores. Rhode Island will be the first state to enact a statewide self-checkout staffing ratio, protecting jobs and improving customer service.

The legislation (S2342/ H7290) will require grocery stores with self-checkouts to have a minimum of one staffed checkout for every three self-checkouts operating, with at least one of the self-checkout stations meeting the accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
