Warwick, RI April 14, 2023 – The 2023 Y Heroes Event will take place on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 6:00pm at the Crowne Plaza, 801 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick RI.

The Greater Providence YMCA, a 501(c) (3), is the second oldest YMCA in the country (established in 1853) serves youth and adults with offerings of swimming, fitness, sports and enrichment programs, after school programming and summer camps at branches located in all five counties in Rhode Island.

The Y Heroes was instituted in 2017, as we as an organization felt that our mission needed more community level exposure.  By doing so, we wanted to recognize those who most influenced the community we serve and have a substantial impact to hundreds of thousands of individuals throughout Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts.

This year’s Y Heroes recipients are: Kate Brewster, Chief Executive Officer of the Jonny Cake Center, South Kingstown, RI; Major General Christopher Callahan, Adjutant General of the Rhode Island National Guard, Cranston, RI; The Honorable Mary Kay Harris, Ward 11 Providence City Councilwoman, Providence, RI; Student interns at the Met School, Providence, RI; Kevin Washington, Immediate Past National President and CEO of Y-USA, Chicago, IL.

This is our 7th annual event and our largest fundraiser.  We are anticipating 650-700 guests, hosted under the tent at the Grand Pavilion.  There will be food, entertainment, silent auction, and a raffle of a 2023 Hyundai Kona presented by Grieco Automotive.

Greater Providence YMCA CEO Steven G. O’Donnell said, “We are excited to celebrate all of our Y Heroes and their remarkable achievements at a formal dinner with their friends, families, staff, elected officials, and our Board of Directors.  Kevin Washington, Immediate Past National President, and CEO of YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) and the first African American to lead this iconic organization, will be the keynote speaker. Collectively, the nation’s YMCAs engage 11 million members-4 million of whom are under the age of 18-annually.”
