Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) announced that he has been selected to be the Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence.

The Intelligence and Counterterrorism Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) intelligence, counterterrorism, and information sharing efforts, specifically managing the DHS intelligence enterprise, the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, the U.S. Secret Service, and the DHS National Network of Fusion Centers. Among the Subcommittee’s primary threat priorities include violent extremism and homegrown terrorism, foreign and domestic terrorist organizations, and counterintelligence.

“One of the most important duties of our government is to keep Americans safe. I am honored to be named as the lead Democrat on the Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence Subcommittee, where I look forward to working with my colleagues to crack down on domestic extremism, international terrorism and all other manner of threats,” said Representative Magaziner. “The fight to preserve our democracy is one of the most sacred obligations of our generation. By helping to lead the Intelligence and Counterterrorism Subcommittee, I aim to confront the dangerous forces that seek to further divide our country, jeopardize our safety, and undermine the democratic principles that make us the best country in the world.”

“I warmly welcome Congressman Magaziner to the Committee on Homeland Security and as Ranking Member of our Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence subcommittee,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson, Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Committee. “I know his work will be essential to our ongoing mission to protect the homeland from the diverse threats we face. I am excited to welcome him to this important new role on behalf of the American people.”
