Rhode Islanders deserve to know about Vic Mellor’s connection to Communist Cuba

Chairman Allyn Meyers released the following statement:
“I am deeply concerned by reports that Vic Mellor registered as a foreign agent for the communist regime of Cuba. Members of Congress are prohibited, under threat of criminal penalty, from acting as foreign agents subject to FARA registration for any nation, let alone a criminal communist regime that remains under United States sanctions and is an adversary of our country.”
“Mr. Mellor owes Rhode Island Republicans–and all Rhode Islanders–a complete and unconditional explanation for his activities. Voters deserve to know why he undertook this activity, whether he remains committed to it, and why he believed it was appropriate while seeking an office which would require him to relinquish that status were he elected.”
“His actions are especially troubling at a time when President Trump and his Administration are working every day to keep Americans safe, secure our interests abroad, and maintain a strong posture against hostile regimes. Rhode Islanders deserve to know why Mr. Mellor chose to engage with the Cuban dictatorship outside that effort.”
