“I am proud to have earned the support of these six distinguished representatives who are my friends and colleagues.  We have worked closely together on issues that matter to the people of Rhode Island from passing the assault weapons ban to codifying Roe v. Wade into state law.  These lawmakers understand that the Attorney General is the first line of defense to keep Rhode Islanders safe and I am honored to have their endorsements.”

Barrington, RI – Today, six members of the Rhode Island House of Representatives endorsed Jason Knight to be Rhode Island’s next Attorney General. Knight received the support of Deputy Majority Leader Justine Caldwell, Representative Leonela Felix, Representative Jennifer Boylan, Representative June Speakman, Chairwoman Susan R. Donovan and Representative Terri Cortvriend.

Jason Knight said, “I am proud to have earned the support of these six distinguished representatives who are my friends and colleagues. We have worked closely together on issues that matter to the people of Rhode Island from passing the assault weapons ban to codifying Roe v. Wade into state law. These lawmakers understand that the Attorney General is the first line of defense to keep Rhode Islanders safe and I am honored to have their endorsements.”

Chairwoman Justine Caldwell (District 30 – East Greenwich, West Greenwich), a fellow member of the House Judiciary Committee, said: “Over the last decade I’ve watched Jason work tirelessly on criminal justice reform with an admirable commitment to making Rhode Island safer for children and families. Jason has the judgment and discipline this office demands. He is methodical, fair, and fact-driven — never rash, always deliberate, and committed to getting it right.”

Representative Leonela Felix (District 61 – Pawtucket): “I’m with Jason for his strong commitment to supporting the immigrant community. His advocacy on the 364-Day Misdemeanor bill has been particularly meaningful. He’s been a great champion for the progressive agenda, including criminal legal reform and gun safety legislation. I’ve seen firsthand on the Judiciary Committee how he works through complex legal issues, and I have deep faith in his integrity and measured judgment—qualities we need in an Attorney General.”

Representative Jennifer Boylan (District 66 – East Providence, Barrington), a leader on gun safety advocacy and former Moms Demand Action advocate prior to her election to the House in 2022: “From his first days on the House Judiciary Committee, Jason has stood out for his legal knowledge, skillful advocacy, and thoughtful approach. He doesn’t take things personally; he’s fact-driven, and he excels at working respectfully with people of differing views. Rhode Island’s Assault Weapons Ban was stuck in Committee for well over a decade, but we now have a ban on the books because Jason got it over the finish line last year. That’s the kind of focus and determination we need in our next Attorney General – ready on day one to take on the Trump administration and fight for Rhode Islanders. Jason is uniquely qualified to pick up where Neronha leaves off and keep us moving forward.”

Representative June Speakman (District 68 – Bristol, Warren), who sits with Rep. Knight on the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee, said: “Jason has the experience, knowledge, and integrity that are essential for the job. As a House colleague, I have often relied on his sharp analysis of complex legal matters. He is a principled legislator who shows deep commitment to making Rhode Island safer.”

Chairwoman Susan R. Donovan (District 69 – Bristol, Portsmouth) said: “Over the last decade that I have served together with Jason, I’ve always appreciated his expertise and thoughtful explanations of the legal case for challenging bills that have come before us, especially regarding gun safety. His lawyerly advocacy around particularly thorny issues like banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines has been indispensable to those successes. Jason is also a steadfast supporter of reproductive freedom and of women and minority pay equity, two issues dear to my heart. Jason will be an Attorney General who shows courage, integrity, and a capacity for thoughtful reflection.”

Representative Terri Cortvriend (District 72 – Middletown, Portsmouth), who sits with Rep. Knight on the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee, said: “In the six years I’ve sat next to Jason in the chamber, I’ve had a clear lens into how he thinks about policy and law. I’ve often relied on his clear, grounded explanations of Judiciary Committee legislation. Jason is thoughtful and meticulous; details matter to him. He defends his positions with strength and clarity, and he has the steady temperament we need in an Attorney General in these dangerous times.”
