VIC MELLOR STATEMENT FOR AMERICA’S INDEPENDENCE DAY
Let’s Renew Our Country’s Founding Principles
As we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday, I am reminded of our Founding Fathers. Each of them carried within them the belief in a free people, who with grit, determination, hard work, and the elixir of freedom were growing a new nation.
They wanted that nation to prosper. In their arguments and discussions, they knew the answer lay in limiting the government’s reach into their wallets. No Taxation without Representation. Let us keep the money we make with our labor. Stop making it harder for us to live by passing regulations and tax laws that we don’t want. Early Americans demanded freedom from government subjugation. They declared independence from an arrogant government and fought for this new nation.
Today the left, casting the founding principles aside, are demanding just the opposite. Using government power, they demand it take from the rich and spread the spoils around. Each year, they pass laws and budgets that drive up the cost of living and make it harder on working class American citizens to prosper. They want to choose who gets what and how much. That’s not American independence and prosperity. That is decline.
Today, I promise to fight for those founding ideas. I will bring common sense and thrift back to our government. I will support policies that deliver a lower cost of living, not because government confiscates wealth from one person to give to another, but because our economy is unleashed from bureaucratic overreach and fraud. Leaving money in the hands of the people who make it unleashes the power of our nation to grow prosperity. I will lend my hand and effort to that worthy goal. I will fight for you!
Happy Independence Day!
