WARWICK, R.I. — On Thursday, March 14, 2024, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) will hold a press conference celebrating $344,000 in federal funding he secured for the Cranston Police Department to upgrade their K-9 vehicle fleet.

The patrol canines assist Cranston Police Department patrol officers in search and rescue operations of missing persons – including individuals with Alzheimer’s – and children, search of property, and narcotic detection, among other duties.

The Cranston Police Department is in need of replacements for four aged canine (K-9) transport and patrol police vehicles equipped with emergency lights, sirens, patrol computer equipment and fire suppression. This fleet of vehicles have been utilized daily for three patrol dogs and one critical therapy dog named “CALI,” who comforts young victims of abuse in close partnership with the Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

This federal funding, secured by Rep. Magaziner, is among his 14 community project funding requests included in the first tranche of government funding legislation for fiscal year 2024 that was signed into law by President Biden.
