The Women’s Fund of Rhode Island (WFRI), a leader in gender equity and policy work impacting women in Rhode Island, is proud to
announce their Women Leading Change Celebration to be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022. The hybrid event’s theme is Centering Equity; participants can either attend in person or watch virtually.

The Women Leading Change program will be led by Juana De Los Santos (Assistant Vice President of Equal Opportunity & Diversity at Brown University), and feature a round table conversation with honorees led by WFRI Board Member, Kevin Matta.

2022 Honorees:
● Marcela Betancur, Latino Policy Institute (Susan Farmer Advocacy Award
Winner);
● Carmen Diaz Jusino, BankNewport (Simone Joyaux Leadership Award Winner);
and
● United Way of Rhode Island (Organizational Equity Award Winner)

Marcela Betancur is being honored for her advocacy work related to voter access, immigration, housing and equity.

Carmen Diaz Jusino is being honored for a variety of volunteer and professional experiences that have improved the economic security of all
Rhode Islanders, including work for her employer BankNewport and for previous roles at the RI Foundation and Women’s Fund of Rhode Island.

Finally, United Way of Rhode Island is being honored for their commitment to a more equitable state, especially in addressing affordable housing and working to dismantle systemic policies that create disparities, especially for Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

This is Women’s Fund of Rhode Island premier fundraising event, raising roughly 25% of
the funds needed to provide local research on the status of women and girls, teach
women how to lead advocacy efforts for themselves and their communities, and provide
grant funding for other local organizations working in the diversity, equity and inclusion
space.
As a special treat, certain ticket levels include a Feminist Gift Box, curated by Giving
Beyond the Box, which features items from local businesses led by women. The highest
