Providence, RI – Tomorrow, April 16th at 6 p.m., the Providence City Council will convene in the Council Chamber on the third floor of City Hall. Press and the public are invited to attend.

Earlier this month, the City Council made Providence history by granting the first of two required passages of the rent stabilization ordinance. Over the past three months, this ordinance was informed by countless hours with community members, nonprofit developers, housing advocates, extensive policy research, and feedback from national housing experts. The ordinance will be considered for second and final passage before being sent to the mayor for his signature.

Councilors will also introduce the Green Revolving Fund, which was announced at a press conference on April 7th with Councilor Sue AnderBois (Ward 3), Mayor Brett Smiley, and local climate leaders. This $3 million investment fund would finance clean energy upgrades in city-owned or leased buildings.

Mayor Brett Smiley will deliver his annual budget address today, Wednesday, April 15th at 5:30 pm in the Council Chamber at a special meeting of the City Council. At the meeting, the mayor’s proposed budget will be referred to committee where it will be thoroughly vetted over the coming months.
